Carnforth Otters success at Kendal Open 2017
Carnforth Otters sent a small bevy of swimmers to compete at the Kendal Mint Open Swimming competition on Saturday 2nd July and came away with over fifty medals (15 Gold, 21 Silver and 17 Bronze medals).
While many of the clubs senior swimmers prepare to compete at national championships a small number of our young swimmers were facing the daunting prospect of competing in their very first open swimming competition. Daniel Simpson (9), Oliver Ball (9), Lucy Adamson (9), Honey Pinington-Mclean (10), Molly Moran (11) and Evie Sellers (11) performed exceptionally well against some of the best swimmers from across the North-West. Evie Sellers swam exceptionally well in the 11 years girls age group winning a silver medal in both the 50m backstroke (38.40) and the 100m backstroke (1:28.90) events. Daniel Simpson (9) won a brilliant bronze medal in the 100m individual medley (1:53.54). Oliver Ball had a super swim in the 50m butterfly event winning a bronze medal in a time of 54.77. Lucy Adamson (9) had a number of super swims and finished the competition very strongly with a well-earned silver medal performance in the girls 9 years 100m backstroke (1:42.62).
In only his second open competition Max Lancaster showed fine form in the boys 9 years age group by winning the 50m butterfly (53.96) event with a super swim and also finished second in both the boys 100m individual medley (1:53.29) and 100m freestyle (1:39.42) events. In the 9 year old girls events Kayleigh Craggs (9) performed well throughout the competition and finished with an excellent swim in the 50m butterfly to take the bronze medal in a time of 50.49 seconds. Evie Robinson (9) showed great speed through the water to take the bronze medal in the 50m freestyle event in a time of 38.59 seconds. Lucy Adamson (9) demonstrated good form through-out and finished strongly with a second place in the 100m backstroke (1:42.62).
In the 10 years boys age group Tom Adamson produced a series of excellent performances in the pool winning four golds, one silver and one bronze medal. Tom won the 100m individual medley (1:24.98), 50m butterfly (37.99), 200m individual medley (2:59.24) and 50m freestyle (32.64) events. Tom also set six personal best times and finished second in the 50m breaststroke event (45.62) and third in the 50m backstroke (39.16). Ashton Pinnington (10) performed extremely well in all of his events throughout the meet wining a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle (1:21.15) event. Ashton also had super swims in the 50m butterfly (4th in 42.31), 50m backstroke (4th in 41.21), 50m freestyle (35.69), 100m individual medley (1:34.31) and 50m breaststroke (51.19) events. Felix Breakwell (10) swam very well in all of his races and finished strongly in both the 50m backstroke (43.74) and 50m freestyle (37.57) events. In the girls 10 years age group Lily Baxter (10) and Honey Pinington-Mclean (10) demonstrated good technique and produced good competitive performances in all their events. The girls best performances came in the 100m breaststroke event with Lily finishing in fifth position (1:52.46) and Honey finished in eleventh position with a time of 2.10.19.
In the 11 years boys age group Owain Heathcote-Jones (11) had a fantastic meet winning five gold medals, one silver and set four new personal best times. Owain started the competition in fine form with an excellent swim in the 100m Individual Medley event taking the silver medal in a new personal best time of 1:24.70. Owain followed up his earlier success in the pool by winning gold in his next five events. Finishing the completion with convincing wins in the 100m freestyle (1:10.94), 50m butterfly (35.94), 50m backstroke (38.74), 100m butterfly (1:25.19) and 50m freestyle (32.51) events. George Wilby (11) had a series of outstanding swims winning one gold, two silvers and two bronze medals. George had a superb swim in the 200m individual medley taking gold in a new personal best time of 2:58.86. George swam strongly throughout the competition and was rewarded with two second place finishes in both the 50m breaststroke (44.63) and 100m freestyle (1:14.12) events. George also won two bronze medals in both the 50m backstroke (39.91) and 50m freestyle (34.44) events and gained a solid fourth place in the 50m butterfly (40.10) event. James Harvey (11) showed great potential with a series of top ten finishes in all of his events: 100m individual medley (1:37.98), 50m breaststroke (51.33), 100m freestyle (1:29.21), 50m backstroke (44.93) and 50m freestyle (38.13).
In the girls 11 year old age group Anya White (11), Page Evans (11), Evie Sellers (11), Imogen Sharp (11), Molly Moran (11) and Amy Huntington (11) all produced excellent performances to finish inside the top 20 places in all events. Evie Sellers won the silver medal in both the 50m backstroke and the 100m backstroke events. Page Evans finished strongly in the 50m butterfly to finish in fourth place (39.86) and showed great determination in the energy zapping 100m butterfly event to take the silver medal in a new personal best time of 1:35.88. Page finished just outside the medals in the 100m freestyle (1:17.15) and the 50m freestyle (PB 35.26). Anya White produced new personal best times in both the 50m freestyle (35.48) and the 100m freestyle (1:18.72) events to finish inside the top ten places. Imogen Sharp swam well in the 50m freestyle to finish in a new personal best time of 35.45 seconds. Molly Moran did well in the 100m individual medley (1:40.35) and the 50m freestyle (38.10) to finish inside the top 20. Amy Huntington made good progress in the 100m individual medley (1:51.89), 50m backstroke (47.24), 100m backstroke (1:48.61) and the 50m freestyle (40.99).
Rhys Ashton (12), Ace Bower (12) and Sid Metcalf (12) performed well in a very competitive 12 years age group. Rhys Ashton had an excellent swim in the blue ribbon 100m freestyle event to win the silver medal in a time of 1:09.22. Rhys also won a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke event (1:18.64) and finished strongly in all his other events including the 50m butterfly (39.60), 50m backstroke (36.17) and 50m freestyle (32.31) event. Ace Bower looked very strong in all of his races and finished the competition well by winning a silver medal in both the 100m butterfly (1:27.34) and the 200m individual medley (2:58.21) events. Ace also competed in 50m butterfly (37.44), 50m backstroke (39.31) and 50m freestyle (33.85). Sid Metcalf had a good swim in the 100m freestyle event to finish inside the top ten with a time of 1:21.03. In the equally competitive girls 12 years age group Ellie Howley (12) took the silver medal in the 50m breaststroke (42.05). Ellie also finished in third place in the 50m backstroke (36.91), the 100m freestyle (1:11.5), the 100m individual medley (1:21.58) and the lung busting 200m individual medley (2:56.83). Sasha Robb (12) took the Silver medal in the 50m backstroke (36.81) and also finished in third place in both the 100m backstroke (1:23.09) and 100m butterfly (1:26.77). Sasha also showed good speed in the 50m freestyle (33.14) and 100m freestyle (1:12.40) events. Gabija Raubaite (12) produced a series of personal best times in all of her races throughout the competition including a fourth place finish in the 50m freestyle (32.76), 100m freestyle (1:14.48), 50m backstroke (38.41) and 50m breaststroke (45.67). Maia Bishop (12) competed strongly in her events achieving new personal best times in the 50m breaststroke (46.67), 100m breaststroke (1:40.95), 50m freestyle (33.51), 50m backstroke (39.90) and the 100m backstroke (1:30.41). Mia also finished inside the top ten in the 100m freestyle (1:16.00).
In the 13 year girls age group Alice Sands (13) had an excellent swim in the 100m freestyle to finish second overall in a time of 1:05.93 and also took third place in the 50m breaststroke in 39.33 seconds. Alice also performed well in her other events the 50m backstroke (35.15), 50m freestyle fourth (30.02), 100m breaststroke (1:28.20) and the 100m individual medley (1:16.91).
In the 14 years age group Connor White (14) performed extremely well in all of his events winning two golds, one silver and one bronze medal. Connor won both the 50m breaststroke (PB 36.22) and the 100m breaststroke (1:23.13) events in fine style and finished second in the 50m freestyle (PB 30.16) and took third place in the longer 100m freestyle (PB 1:06.51) event.
Mathew Crabtree (15) produced some fine performances in the boys 15 and over age group category winning both the 100m individual medley (1:09.02) race and the 50m freestyle event with a superfast 26.88 second swim. Mathew also swam a super sub-sixty 100m freestyle turning in 28.62 seconds at the 50m mark and coming home in 30.31 seconds to take the silver medal in 58.93 seconds. Mathew also finished the competition with a silver medal in both the 50m breaststroke (PB 35.77) and the 50m backstroke (32.07) events and a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly (31.53).
Carnforth Otters Swimming Club is a Lancaster based competitive swimming club and home to a multiple world record holder, a 2012 Olympic finalist, national finalist, and a place where young people not only have fun but are inspired, motivated and taught to be the best swimmers they can be.
