Carnforth Otters Spectacular in Salford
A small group of swimmers travelled to Salford for their ‘Summer Spectacular’ and for Otters Spectacular it was, with our swimmers claiming a massive 42 medals and achieving 34 personal best times in the process . It was the final Open meet of the season and an opportunity for some swimmers to achieve qualifying times for the upcoming North Lancs and Lancs County Championships whilst for others it was a warm up for the National Summer Championships.
Lucy Adamson was the youngest Otter competing and in only her second open meet she showed real potential for the future putting in some strong swims and claiming 1 silver and 1 bronze medal. Lucy’s brother Tom had some great swims over the weekend bagging himself 2 gold and 5 silver medals but more importantly swimming PB’s in all his races which bodes well for the season ahead.
George Wilby continued to be rewarded for his consistent hard work in training by swimming 3 personal best times including a huge 9 seconds off his 200m backstroke time and earned himself 1 silver and 4 bronze medals. Molly Moran and Imogen Sharp had good swims with Imogen swimming a 15 second PB in the 100m backstroke.
Hannah McMillan and Ellie Howley had a busy weekend, Hannah competed in 11 events, swam 3 personal best times and took 1 bronze medal; Ellie competed in 8 events, swam 4 personal best times and she too took 1 bronze. Sacha Robb looked good in her 3 events and swam 2 personal best times.
George Cookson had a strong finish to the season; his efforts and determination in training rewarded with 4 personal best times and 2 bronze medals.
Ella Mounsey and Richard Mead performed well after a break from racing due to GCSE’s; Ella claimed bronze medals in all 4 of her events which included a personal best time in the 200m freestyle, Richard became the splash and dash champion taking gold in the Open 50m freestyle.
Ben Winterburn, Alex Livingstone, Hannah Edwards and Robin Austin had one eye on the upcoming English Summer Nationals and Open Water Championships. Hannah showed that she was really coming into top form at the right time swimming 4 personal best times and claiming gold medals in the 3 breaststroke events, great preparation for Nationals. Robin also swam 4 personal best’s taking 4 seconds off his 200IM time and claimed 5 medals. Ben put in solid performances and won silver medals in 2 of his 3 events; Alex swam 2 PB’s won 6 medals in her 10 events and also earned the Top Girl trophy for the 14 and over age group.
A great end to a great season for Carnforth Otters.
